Hot Springs Bone and Joint Center (HSB&JC)

HSB&JC is a department of Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital and is reached through the main entrance of the hospital. The Hospital contracts with Dr. David Cook, MD to provide orthopedic services for the hospital and serve as director of HSB&JC. Of the orthopedic surgeons having clinics or performing surgery at the Hospital, Dr. Cook is the only orthopedic surgeon who is a member of the Hospital Active Medical Staff. Dr. Cook has no fiduciary relationship with any other hospital or treatment facility.

Mission

Hot Springs Bone & Joint Center was established to provide treatment of bone and joint injuries at the Hospital in Thermopolis. The need to transport hip or extremity fractures to an out of town care facility has become optional since Dr. Cook has been available to perform surgery and care for orthopedic injuries Thermopolis. Having the doctor come to the patient rather than the patient going to the doctor has facilitated earlier surgical treatment (and frequently earlier discharge) than otherwise possible. Hospitalization at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital has also proved to be a convenience for family and friends of the patients. They remain closer to home and are not separated by the time and distance needed to travel to a more distant hospital. Local hospital care also permits continuity of care from their family doctor who is already familiar with their pre-injury health and medical needs.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are mandatory for orthopedic care. HSBJ&C’s location is conveniently located adjacent to the Gottsche Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Cook is proud to have a close relationship with Gottsche who through their excellent facilities and skilled personnel provide high quality Physical and Occupational Therapy for both in-patients and out-patients.
